Telesales:

Telesales can mean different things to different people.

Done professionally, it is a cost-effective way to generate new business. It takes strong communication skills to identify needs and then convert these into sales. It means using a well-crafted proposition and the communication of real benefits. Self-determination, listening skills and tact are needed to overcome objections, hear the buying signals and close the sale. All while staying the right side of persistent.

It can range from a low-cost offering that can be sold on the first or perhaps the second call right through to high end sales that involve a long sales cycle and a more consultative approach.

Telemarketing:

Telemarketing usually includes getting a qualified lead or gaining an appointment.

Sometimes it’s a quick process where an appointment can be gained on the first or second call.

At other times it’s a long relationship build with more than one decision maker involved.

This is until the prospective client is at a stage where they are ready to move to speaking with a Sales person. This is usually either a face to face meeting or an online demo.

For some companies the approach needed is consultative and solution-based. For others a more product or price focused approach is more appropriate. A Telemarketer may be good at one approach and not the other.

A cold phone call may be required. It’s no wonder that not everyone has the innate qualities needed!
